Fall Highlights

Peace River & Lethbridge kicked off the Provincial competition season.

Peace River hosted a smaller but spirited meet — a great chance for northern skaters to get back on the line and for volunteers and officials to gain valuable experience early in the season.

Meanwhile, Lethbridge welcomed its largest group of young racers in years at the Cavendish Farms Centre, filling the rink with energy and excitement. What a great start to the season!

National Competition Comes to Calgary

Speed Skating Alberta is proud to host the first of three national events this season — the Neo Junior Short Track Championships — taking place November 8 & 9 at the Olympic Oval.

Ten Alberta skaters will be racing against some of the best young athletes in the country. Come cheer them on, or join the action by volunteering.

You can sign up HERE!

This isn’t the first time Alberta has been represented on the national stage this season. Skaters from across the province have already competed at the Canadian Short Track Championships in Montreal, Canadian Long Track Championships in Calgary, and the Canadian Junior Short Track Championships in Sherbrooke— bringing home strong performances, valuable experience, and plenty of pride for Team Alberta.

🏁 From personal bests to podiums and World Cup qualifications, Alberta skaters have been making their mark across Canada — congratulations to all who’ve worn the Alberta colours already this season!

We’re not collecting entry fees for the Neo Jr's event, but you can still support by participating in our 50/50!
Every ticket purchased helps contribute to event costs — and gives you the chance to walk away with a little extra cash yourself!

Meet the 2025 Provincial Team

We’re excited to introduce this season’s Speed Skating Alberta Provincial Team — a talented group of athletes proudly representing our province across Canada!

The purpose of the Provincial Team is to:
• Provide a clear pathway for Alberta skaters to progress from club-level development to national-level competition, and
• Recognize and connect Alberta’s top-performing skaters, fostering a strong sense of team identity and community across the province.

This year, 35 athletes have been named to the Provincial Team, with 5 skaters joining the Provincial (Junior) Development Team, and several others already earning their spot on the team early in the season!

We’re also continuing with the Youth Development Team this year — and we’re excited to share the full team list and updated criteria with our community.

Congratulations to all athletes named to our Provincial and Development Teams! Click on the button below to find out who's on the team this year!

Meet Paige!

Every great journey begins with a single stride, and for Paige, that stride started right here in our Learn to Skate program last season. With determination in her heart and a growing passion for speed skating, she took the next step and joined the Border Blades team this year.

Paige’s hard work and positive spirit quickly shone through, and on October 18–19 she competed in her very first event — the Prairie Opener. She skated with focus, and determination, achieving new personal bests and proudly bringing home a bronze medal.

Paige’s journey is a wonderful reminder that with effort, perseverance, and a willingness to challenge yourself, amazing things can happen. The Border Blades are so proud to have Paige on our team, and we can’t wait to see what she accomplishes next!
